Profile Lorene F. Schaefer, Esq.is a skilled mediator, arbitrator and neutral, third-party workplace investigator, backed with over twenty years experience as an attorney. Lorene also serves as an instructor for timely workplace and sensitivity training for employers, whether the employer is conducting the training voluntarily or through settlement obligations. Lorene has extensive experience litigating, mediating and arbitrating complex employment and business cases across the United States, including individual and multi-plaintiff harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour matters and business disputes. For fourteen years, she was in-house counsel at the General Electric Company and was a key member in the teams that implemented GE's landmark employee conflict management system at three of GE's businesses in the 1990's. Lorene's last role at GE was General Counsel of GE Transportation, the then $4.2B global technology leader and supplier to the railroad, transit, marine, mining, and wind industries with over 9,500 employees worldwide in 60+ services facilities. As a neutral mediator and arbitrator, Lorene sees both sides of an issue and considers them impartially. Not only has Lorene represented and advised major corporate employers, but she also was a named plaintiff in a gender discrimination and pay equity class action. This personal experience, along with her legal and negotiation expertise, provides a strong foundation from which she is able to assess issues and forge conclusions and resolutions. In addition to serving as a neutral mediator and arbitrator, Lorene also conducts neutral workplace investigations for One Mediation clients and over the course of her two decade career, has spearheaded hundreds of complex and sensitive investigations into allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment, retaliation, discrimination, and violations of company policy. Her leadership and ability to quickly establish trust and confidence in the integrity of the investigative process has led to the successful resolution of many situations and assisted in avoiding costly litigation. Lorene enjoys an excellent reputation with both the plaintiff and defense bars.
